How to test Ubuntu from the browser and without installing it on the PC

Test Ubuntu from the browser

If I have to recommend an operating system to someone I know, I usually recommend one of the Ubuntu versions. I am a Mac user on my desktop computer, but I know that Apple computers are very expensive and on all the PCs I have owned, not counting my iMac, I have been comfortable with Ubuntu. Windows is totally ruled out. When I recommend it, what I also recommend is to install it in a dual-boot, but now you can try Ubuntu 14.04 directly from the browser.

It must be recognized that the option to test an operating system from the browser is not something new. In fact, there are many websites that allow us simulate several versions of Windows, the oldest being the ones that work best due to their greater lightness. In addition, although it is a good option to see some things and as a first contact, it has certain limitations, such as the absence of the Terminal, the application that so many users like so much and that gives so much fear to others.

Testing Ubuntu 14.04 from your web browser is possible

Another of the restrictions that we will find will be the inability to install applications. Although we have the Ubuntu Software Center available, we cannot search for applications. If we install any of those shown, it will perform a quick installation simulation and, if we execute it after its installation, we will see a notice that will invite us to download Ubuntu.

Software Center in Ubuntu Simulator

Among what we can do we have:

  • Browse with the file manager.
  • Browse with Firefox.
  • Check mail with Thunderbird.
  • See photos with Shotwell.
  • Browse the Ubuntu Software Center.
  • Use LibreOffice Writer, Calc and Impress.
  • Access the Ubuntu video player.
  • Interact with the applets on the top bar.

Most likely, this simulator will not be of much use to readers of Ubunlog, but it will seem curious to you. For those who have never tried Ubuntu, you can now do so from THIS LINK. Of course, although I have always said that Linux is much faster than Mac (I don't even speak of Windows…), don't think that everything will go as fast as the simulation because we are talking about that, a simulation.

Hello greetings, the truth for more than fifteen years that I prefer to use linux and currently ubuntu.

We must point out that there are important differences, but that only they concern those who love games. If the games are conceived exclusively for the WINDOWS platform. That which exists WINE, however I have never used it. In fact, I only use firefox to navigate, social networks, and traditional programs and applications that are usually close to what MSDOS sells, only that linux is free. For music lovers, I know that there are a huge number of applications, I also understand that there are applications for CAO fans.

Being a perfect ignorant in computer science, because I suppose that those who read will undoubtedly be much more qualified than I for this of mouse screens and computer material. Really today I know that since Ubuntu (the one I use is LTS in 16.04) you can see almost everything from MSDOS, the reverse is impossible. My excuses for my Spanish certainly full of spelling horrors)
