The first version of Pano arrives at GNOME, among the novelties of this week

Pano, GNOME Shell extension

In the news articles of the week in GNOME, what the project talks about the most is arrivals or improvements in applications from its circle. They tell us a little less about software such as extensions that allow us to do more in our environment GNOME, and this week they have welcomed one that has received the name of Pano.

Currently, Pano it only officially supports GNOME 42, the latest version of the desktop. This is explained in your GitHub page, where we also learn that it is an extension to manage clipboard history. It cannot be used in GNOME 41 and earlier, and will need some tweaking to support GNOME 43 which is currently in beta.

This week in GNOME

  • Upcoming port of Maps GTK 4 and libshumate with the latest tweaks for GNOME 43, also sporting the port from libsoup 2 to libsoup 3 and using the OAuth 2 protocol instead of OAuth 1.1a to register editing points of interest in OpenStreetMap.
  • Login Manager Settings v1.0 beta, with:
    • The app has a new icon that follows GNOME HIG.
    • It has some new dialogs to display errors to the user instead of causing a terminal panic.
    • Previously, the app would freeze after hitting "Apply" until it finished applying the settings. This has been fixed.
    • The app now displays a logout dialog (if required) after applying settings.
    • When the current display settings are applied, the scaling is also applied (may not work on all systems).
    • The application is now DBusActivable.
    • Many of the changes have been made to the code, which will make future work easier.
  • Grace v0.2.0:
    • Added a preset manager that allows you to rename, delete, or download other user presets.
    • New welcome screen.
    • Improved moten theme generation.
    • Other minor interface improvements.
  • First version of Pano (header capture), an extension that manages clipboard history. It currently supports code blocks, code colors, images, links, text, and file operations such as cut and copy.

And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
