Ubuntu 12.04 ESM, an Ubuntu for the furthest behind

Ubuntu 12.04 ESM

On April 25, Ubuntu 12.04 will no longer be supported. A long stand unlike other normal versions. Given this, users who have or use Ubuntu 12.04 will have to update their distribution to the latest version or to Ubuntu 14.04, whatever they prefer or whatever is less traumatic for the company or the user.

Canonical and the Ubuntu team in such a situation have created a program called Ubuntu 12.04 ESMi.e Ubuntu 12.04 Extend Security Maintenance. A program or better said service by which the user will have more time to use this very old version of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 12.04 ESM is nothing more than a support service, for which Canonical will supply current and secure kernel versions, updates and patches for the old version. In addition, in this case, the company behind Ubuntu will offer help so that the user or company can update their entire network to the new versions of Ubuntu.

Currently the price of this service or service program is $ 150 per personal equipment per year, $ 750 for servers per year and $ 250 for virtual machines per year. Ubuntu 12.04 ESM is already available in the Ubuntu online store, something that makes us suspect that it remains among Canonical's services. In two years the support of Ubuntu 14.04 as well as other non-LTS versions of Ubuntu will end and if the program remains, it could be adapted to the following Ubuntu versions, so shortly we could have Ubuntu 14.04 ESM or Ubuntu 16.10 ESM.

Upgrading to recent versions of Ubuntu is not problematic, so it seems that Ubuntu 12.04 ESM is intended for large companies or networks that use Ubuntu server 12.04 as the main operating system and therefore its update can be more problematic than normal. In any case, once again it is shown that Ubuntu is not only a great distribution for desktops but also a good option for companies.

There is always a somewhat outdated team at home that benefits from this version ...

Sorry huh, but I think they would gain in quality by ceasing to support so many versions and dedicating themselves to 16.04 LTS and the current 16.10 at most, at most one LTS older to allow time for the change and allow the LTS that is promised. But it is a waste of resources and time that they could spend on other things, such as Mir and Unity 8 support.
