Ubuntu 15.04 vs Windows 10 which system is better?

Ubuntu VS Windows

Finally, we already have Windows 10 in the markets, the operating system with which Microsoft will offer users the famous Convergence that everyone is looking for. This convergence comes first to Windows than to Ubuntu, however this does not mean that the convergence of Ubuntu is worse than that of Windows. Many of you will wonder which system is better Ubuntu 15.04 or Windows 10? A question that is difficult to answer and even more difficult to decide.

To help you in this decision, what I have seen fit is to show a series of pros of each operating system, show it clearly and then let each one decide for himself since the computer is personal.

Windows 10 Pros

There are many novelties with Windows 10 and many of these novelties are very good although I have only selected a few, the most striking or important. One of these features is called Cortana, the voice assistant that is included in Windows 10. This assistant will allow us to control Windows 10 with our voice, in addition to facilitating use with the operating system.

Convergence in Windows 10 is now complete, a single kernel and system for all devices, however so far we only have the installation on computers, the mobile version or the tablet version has not yet arrived. This convergence will mean that there is only a single application for each program, this will facilitate the work of developers since only a single development is needed. Windows seems to be the king of videogames and Microsoft knows it, which is why it has added e Built-in Xbox platform to Windows 10 to play with the latest from Xbox on our computer.

Continuum is another of the new facets of Windows 10 to consider, this will allow us to use our smartphone as a Windows 10 computer and connect to other devices such as a monitor or keyboard.

Windows 10

Pros of Ubuntu 15.04

Ubuntu 15.04 It may not have the famous convergence but it does have other equally interesting pros. One of these good features is that offers the same for fewer resources. Ubuntu 15.04 consumes less ram memory and less space than Windows 10. It also has a lower price; While Windows 10 still costs more than $ 100, Ubuntu 15.04 is free, you just need an Internet connection.

Today Ubuntu 15.04 does not have as good a hand with video games as Microsoft, Windows 10 and Xbox but yes has the Steam platform, a very interesting platform that will allow us to play almost any video game with a few years of age.

Perhaps the worst difference of Ubuntu 15.04 Regarding Windows 10, it is the inclusion of many types of applications and installations, this for developers is chaos, but at the same time this allows greater control of the system to the user since everyone chooses how to install the application, customize it if they want and even distribute it through personal networks without having to perform installation after installation. In addition Ubuntu 15.04 has a greater security control thanks to the root password and without virus. Something that Windows 10 does not have yet.

Spotify on Ubuntu 15.04

Conclusion

Personally, I am of the opinion that Windows 10 should not be compared with Ubuntu 15.04 due to the convergence, but then I think that many of us use Android and not Ubuntu Touch or Windows 10 mobile, so at the moment of truth it is something that it does not affect us. The only repercussion that I see is the fact that we have a single application of a program or we have several of a program. In this case, it would be the user himself who should think if that bothers or not. In my case, I don't see it relevant since I don't care having a single way to install a program or having several, I always choose the one that seems most comfortable to me.

Regarding the rest of the pros of Windows 10, since Ubuntu 15.04 offers a greater customization of the system than Windows 10, we can happily say that we can have anything from Windows 10 in Ubuntu 15.04: from a voice assistant to a video game platform passing by emulation, servers, different screens with the same computer, etc…. Everything is possible thanks to the freedom of code, something that Microsoft and Windows 10 do not offer. But as I said, each one chooses and it is not more to use only Ubuntu 15.04 nor less to use Windows 10, on the contrary, sometimes switching between operating systems is the best for our needs.

If Canonical had been patient and had maintained the existing synchronization with Ubuntu-One, over time it would have improved its implementation and would give 10 laps to the "convergence" of W10, it does have Onedrive as standard. I remember that with Ubuntu-One, when you reinstalled the desktop appeared as you had before formatting the computer (and you began to download the folders you had on the server), while W10 only respects the desktop background. A missed opportunity for Ubuntu. Conclusion: for now I have to stay in W10 and keep it because of the warranty of the equipment (which does not arrive two months after you buy it) I have no other choice. As for me, I format everything and Ubuntu on demand.

    1.    Javi said

By the way, not even with W7 did I have as many house brand blue screens (I just had a glorious one, just with Firefox open), as I am having with W10 (freaky). Of course, the minimalist interface of W10 I like. Oh, if Ubuntu had a Material Design interface (not like KDE Plasma, which is the required rococo version of Material Design)

as some have said it is better to have the 2 OS, because personally neither has anything to envy of the other
both are very good options and we cannot exclude one from the other

    1.    Ivan Alexander said

Well, I have Ubuntu 15.10 and the truth is much more powerful, complete and customizable, but since I have an iPod nano, I also need iTunes, but in Ubuntu there is Rhytmbox that allows you to put music on your device, and if there is no Banshee that allows also put video, podcasts, music and playlists. It does not have the same things as iTunes but in case you want to do something else, I made a VM in WinXP's VirtualBox, and iTunes works perfectly, as long as you have the extension pack installed in VBox to activate USB devices.

For the umpteenth time I have tried to install Ubuntu, and for the umpteenth time it fails. The GRUB motif.
I have tried to install it without sharing an operating system, and GRUB failed.
I say Grub failure because if you work with the installation CD there are no problems.
UBUNTU is like a car that can have many options and even be free, but if it doesn't start, what is the use?

  22.   Arthur said

The GRUB fix is exaggeratedly simple and if it fails you it is because you have a badly partitioned disk, the most common reason for failure is because Windows does not allow sharing equipment with another system and Ubuntu does, if you install Windows first and then Ubuntu nothing happens but if you first install ubuntu and then windows comes chaos, windows is very "selfish" so to speak, but once you can repair it and have both OS you will be able to appreciate the virtues of both, sometimes the solution is so simple but Users close down to try and claim that they do not have time or desire to learn a new OS, there is no need to learn it is simple logic and download a program on your USB which you can do even from your cell phone and anyone who uses a PC must be able to fix GRUB.

The theme games don't even name it with Linux steam gives you 2 or 3 games for Linux and the farthest ones. Linux does not work for games maybe if in 5 years ... Windows 10 with dualcore and 2ram flies me and has everything x now ... I'm doing fine without any bug linux I always have some flaws .. It will not have viruses but linux without using fanaticism let's face it Faaaalta a lot, it's fast because of its shitty interface and games ... pacman and thanks ... They say that it has everything free version ... they are chotisimos programs ... If you have a very ugly pc that does not even run the pacman and you just want to check Facebook Linux is for you

The truth is wrongly, I have Ubuntu and with steam and play on Linux I can play lol, it provides 2 games designed for Windows 10 but in Linux, without viruses, high speed, and personally if you only want a pc to play install Ubuntu You put vm for the virtual machines you put Windows and ready you start playing, and without having any virus because apart from being in Linux you are using a virtual machine that does not harm your pc. Being realistic as you say Microsoft designed viruses to be able to have the user alienated, its changes in Windows 10 is to return to the Windows 7 start menu and add Windows 8 menu at the same time, many blue screens, much theft of your information, But of course you are a kid who will really know about computing, they give you a cortana games of greater difficulty and that is how your tit or candy does not let you see the real world.

  24.   hitechmexico said

If you say it Gabriel, it will be like that but for me it is the worst experience with WINDOWS 10 I would never return to it, windows is only to play

In fact, with a machine almost identical to yours, I could not work more than two days in a row with Windows 10 without being thrown the famous blue; now in Ubuntu 15.10, the laptop works like never before. Unless I buy myself a gamer PC, I won't go back to Windows.

I am currently using windows 10, I am thinking of switching to Ubuntu since W10 works slow for me and sometimes it locks completely. The use that I give it is to program so they both meet my needs, although what I like about W10 is that it has Outlook, Onedrive, Dropbox, they are very easily administrable and they update automatically, also the Office package that I use a lot and a couple of tools like SQL Workbench and SQLYog among others. Maybe I'll switch to Ubuntu to see if it increases my computer's performance, it's a matter of adapting and finding alternative tools. Greetings.

  26.   hitechmexico said

Roderic you can try with libreoffice that is very similar to office and is compatible with Microsoft office formats, in which case you can install playonlinux and install Microsoft office 2010 it works completely, now MYSQL Workbench already comes by default in UBUNTU or in any linux distribution, many

    1.    Jose Villamizar said

Both Dropbox and google drive, with Ubuntu it works a million, as for the office is free office, I even use it to exchange documents with Office (other users) and I have had no problems, with Ubuntu I can capture the screen natively as well as any Part of it, I can create PDF from any application, Windows 10 is very nice, excellent presentation, but it really is slow, I installed it on an I7 pc with 16Gb of ram and when it connects to the internet or runs an office application, it looks like me. old E7600 dualcore pc with 4Gb of ram in Ubuntu.

I use the 2 on 2 different machines ... In an «all in one» (4gb ram) that came with win8 (the worst thing I saw in my life) I had no choice but to switch to win10 .. and I was pleasantly surprised ... Everything works smoothly and fast and the minimalist aesthetic is appreciated ..

And on a NetBook (1gb ram) I currently use Lubuntu and the machine FLIES! It is to have all the windows open the instant you click on them ... Really wonderful!

I was a fan of ubuntu. Until yesterday. the video card (ATI) never worked quite right, until I managed to get it to work for several months, until yesterday. My family always complained to me that it was disgusting, that they could not do one thing or another, that such a video format was not seen, etc. And the day before yesterday it occurred to me to update it and after that the screen resolution changed, the sound stopped working and the login screen does what it wants. I was 3 hours trying to correct it and nothing, I got bored. I am downloading the windows 10 iso and will send Ubuntu to be a virtualbox guest

There is no way to compare Linux to Windows; For everything, starting with security where Linux is Champion, by programs Linux reaches about 800.000 by user manuals it reaches about 400.000.000 web pages. By speed of navigation in Internet Linux surpasses it; I've been using LinuxMint for 19 years and it far exceeds Ubuntu

Reading the old comments, I do not understand why they say that Windows is only for gaming? and what do institutions do with Windows = play ?.

We all know that Ubuntu and its distributions are dead, in short Ubuntu only serves to surf the internet, for nothing else.

And sorry to those that Windows works slow, it is that they surely have old hardware in their computer.

Please compare Windows 10 to Ubuntu is an insult! Windows is only for games, and there are even games that run better on Linux Mint than on Windows. By the way I use Ubuntu Mate and Linux Mint Cinnamon, and although I had always had Windows in dual boot, I ended up deleting Windows on my Desktop PC, because if you have a powerful PC you can forget about Windows because even the games are good.

    1.    jordywp said

Even if you have a good Ubuntu device and its distributions are never going to reach the level of user experience of Windows, please put the fanaticism aside or keep dreaming.

Regarding games, you can play most of them if they are developed for Ubuntu but not, and on the subject of emulating windows with the Wine program, which is crap.
