Ubuntu 16.04 LTS kernel for RasPi 2 fixes serious vulnerabilities

bugs

As reported by Canonical today through its website, Several vulnerabilities have been detected in the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xeinal Xerus) kernel for the platform Raspberry Pi 2. However, It's not the only one that suffers from the same and other editions such as Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) present the same problem.

A set of patches have been prepared to correct these problems totaling 8 vulnerabilities in the various desktop and system kernel packages. As always, Canonical suggests that all users' systems be updated as soon as possible in order to prevent possible attacks on their systems.

System security patches are directly related to various features of the environment, including the kernel RDS system (Reliable Datagram Sockets) and its implementation, a TCP protocol management failure, abnormal behaviors in the microphone driver and stack overflow failures due to USB HID drivers. Other minor bugs affecting PowerPC architecture based platforms have also been detected, other bugs related to the OverlayFS filesystem and other problems derived from connectivity between airspy USB driver and system kernel.

As you can see, there are not few errors to correct and hence the Canonical's insistence that its users update your teams as soon as possible. Users who are going to use the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) port image from now on for Raspberry Pi 2, whose version is called linux-image-4.4.0-1021-raspi2 (4.4.0-1021.27), they should know that these bugs have already been fixed in the same. The rest of the editions must download the corresponding patches.

To carry out an update of the equipment through the command line, run the APT function as administrators, or use a graphical manager such as Ubuntu Software or Synaptic Package Manager.
