Ubuntu 16.10 enters final freeze; available October 13

Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak

Now we can say that the countdown has begun. Last minute last minute, Adam Conrad took over to inform that Ubuntu 16.10, the next version of the operating system developed by Canonical that will be called Yakkety Yak, has entered the final freezing phase, which means that no more changes will be accepted until after the official launch that is scheduled next week.

The final freeze is the last step in the distribution development process and means that although we have previously said that no further changes will be accepted, Only important packages that fix very serious bugs will be accepted in the repositories, such as a critical security flaw that must be corrected before the official release of Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak.

Ubuntu 16.10 will officially arrive on October 13

At this time, Yakkety has entered the final freeze period in preparation for the final release of Ubuntu 16.10 that will take place next week. Uploads that are currently queued will be reviewed and accepted or rejected based on the pre-freeze standard, but as of now there is no room for anything else.

Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak is coming next week, Thursday October 13 to be exact. Among the most outstanding novelties we have to use the Linux Kernel 4.8 recently released and, perhaps most eagerly awaited, the ability to use Unity 8. That said, we have to remember that the new Ubuntu graphical environment will be installed by default, but it will not start by default in Unity 8. If we want to use it, we will have to select it from the login screen.

On the other hand, I also think it is important to remember that it is not worth getting our hopes up thinking that we will be able to use the new graphical environment from the October 13; Although it is true that it will come installed by default and we will not have to install the packages manually, it is also true that there will be many computers on which it will not work this month due to known problems with the Mir screen server, so we will have to continue to be patient . My question is: will you install Ubuntu 16.10 already next week?

I have already installed it as the main one a couple of weeks ago but unity 8 is very green, we will still see when it finally comes out. What I do like is its impressive speed and what I don't like is that the bar hides automatically

I have it installed on 2 laptops and both have failed hibernation, as usual. Another error that is always repeated is in the new kernel that after updating it leaves you without a network. Good thing they have updated the kernel and you can now access the network and hibernate on one of the laptops. In the other, hibernation continues to fail.

For the rest, the only thing that is noticeable are the new gnome packages 3.20 and 3.22 that seem to be a bit more polished. The rest the same as ubuntu 16.04. That that it is faster is a utopia.

Regarding Unity8, what comes pre-installed is crap, it is not an Ubuntu Snappy Personal system, they are loose packages that give the impression that you have a new operating system based on unity8 + mir + snappy but it is not like that. Ubuntu personal snappy requires a new partition system (one for boot, 2 for kernels, another for snaps, etc.). It has nothing to do with it. It also doesn't work well and is very slow. Too green I would say, considering it is not a pure Unity8.
