Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 released with new theme, improvements for everything and a version for Raspberry Pi

Ubuntu Budgie 21.04

Continuing with Hirsute Hippo's round of articles on landings, now it is brother Budgie's turn, the last to arrive in the family that is usually one of the most active teams. Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 has arrived with a novelty that stands out from the rest of the flavors, if we remove Ubuntu and Ubuntu MATE, who already offered this image. And it is that the Budgie flavor of Ubuntu is also available for the Raspberry Pi 4 from today.

Earlier this month, when they released the beta, they started a note saying that, unfortunately, they had done something wrong, that they had achieved the biggest launch in its history. True, this is something that all developers say after a new release, but they couldn't say it if the new version was discreet. Here are the highlights that have come along with Ubuntu Budgie 21.04.

Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 highlights

  • Supported for 9 months, until January 2022.
  • Linux 5.11.
  • Budgie 10.5.2, where the most changes are.
  • New macOS-style WhiteSur theme. This topic has been "backported" to 20.04.
  • Two new applets for the developer community, also available in 20.04.
  • Aesthetic improvements in the graphical environment, with a darker tone in the theme that will be used by default and new Well icons.
  • Improvements in applets and mini-apps and the application menu.
  • New budgie-clipboard-applet to manage the clipboard.
  • Packages updated to newer versions, such as software such as Firefox or LibreOffice.
  • Error correction.
  • Image for Raspberry Pi 4.

Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 has been officially released, so it can already be downloaded from the Canonical server (soon from his official website) or install it from the same operating system using the command sudo do-release-upgrade. As always when updating an operating system, it is recommended to make a backup of all important files before starting the process.
