Ubuntu MATE 16.10 will not bring MATE HUD

MATTE-HUD

It is now available the first beta of Ubuntu MATE 16.10, a beta that brings some news in the official flavor for the next launch and finally presents what the next version of Ubuntu will bring. But it also presents us with sour and sad news. Apparently the development and implementation of MATE HUD is postponed for Ubuntu MATE 17.04, so users of this flavor will not be able to count on the functions of this display that will try to be the alternative to Ubuntu HUD.

As reported by the project leader, Martin Wimpress, from now on developers will focus on the progress they have made in alpha versions to offer a stable and updated final version.

MATE HUD will arrive with Ubuntu MATE 17.04

In alpha versions an attempt has been made to insert the new GTK3 + libraries, as well as adapting all the software that Ubuntu MATE had to these libraries, even rewriting some programs so that the implementation was total. Currently the Ubuntu MATE team is working on stabilizing all of this and making it as stable as possible for the user. That is why the MATE HUD may not be found for this version and has been postponed for the next version of Ubuntu MATE.

Although in the alpha version you could see a fairly functional MATE HUD, the truth is that there were some functions that were not ready yet and it seems that they have not managed to work according to the planned schedule. In any case, the rest of the news is just as interesting and the functionalities of the GTK3 + libraries will be something that is present in Ubuntu MATE Yakkety Yak.

For those who like to try new things or want to know first-hand what one of the popular flavors of Ubuntu will bring, in this link You will find the installation image of the first Ubuntu MATE 16.10 beta, an image that is not yet stable so it is not recommended to use it on production computers.
