About 24 hours ago, Canonical has included the necessary packages to run the graphical environment Unity 8 to the latest Ubuntu 16.10 images, which means that no longer need to install packages manually. As when the launch is official, to run Unity 8 in Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak it will be necessary to select the new graphical environment from the login screen, that is, by default we will continue entering Unity 7 until we select Unity 8.

The problem is that Unity 8 still does not work on all computers, which is why I had to use the captures that has included OMG! UBUNTU! in your article. The problem seems to be on Mir display server on which Unity 8 works, something that I hope they fix soon because I don't think it is a very good idea to use Ubuntu when all that my PC shows is a black image, that in case it does not return me to the login screen seconds after hitting Enter.

This will be Unity 8

As you can see in the images, Unity 8 will be a graphical environment with a more current image, which means that it will be much flatter and will look more like what we could see on any tablet. In fact, Canonical's new graphical environment is designed to look good on both desktop systems and mobile devices, all bearing in mind the Convergence of Ubuntu.

I have to admit that I am dying to try Unity 8, but my hopes of doing it in Ubuntu 16.10 are diluted with the passage of time. If we take into account that we are already a just a week after its official launch and they still have not solved some problems that have existed for months, I do not think they will solve them in just seven days or, if they do, I do not trust it and I do not think it will launch me once the launch is official. Maybe for Ubuntu 17.04, we'll see.

If you want to try your luck and see if Unity 8 works on your computer, you can test it by downloading the latest Daily Build from this link.

So much trouble with Unity 8, that although I know it is in the development phase. It's hrrible. I think they are missing a lot. For now I'm still with Gnome 3.20 it's great.

In my video nvidia gt710 works very well and much more fluid than Unity7, of course there are still many things missing, but it looks very good

Can it be used in 16.04? Because I don't want to upgrade to a distro with only six months of support.

Hello German. Yes it can. I already tried it a long time ago in Ubuntu 16.04, but installing the packages manually. I got it working once, but it wouldn't let me access apps or anything, so I only tested it 50%.

      A greeting.

It has given me problems on my machine, I could see the desktop with the top bar and the mouse and nothing else can be done, except to see the networks that the machine sees and restart it. They can put unity 8 back in the box where they found it and put it next to the garbage, it is not green, it has a long way to go.

Canonical must follow Mate's lead if it wants to have a good reception with its desktop environment. Unity was a misstep. And for what they are presenting, even though in development, even with Unity 8 more users will continue to lose,
