Would you pay $ / € 5 per month to browse ad-free with Firefox? This will be a possibility of Firefox Premium

Firefox Premium

A few weeks ago, Mozilla spoke to us of your future plans. Among them we have several related to being able to monetize their services and for this they have created or modified the «Firefox» brand to include Browser (the browser), Send, Lockwise and Monitor. He also advanced that he would launch Firefox Premium, but little did we know about this improved experience beyond that it would be paid. Today we already know some more things, among which we have its price.

As we see on the page that they have enabled to tell us about it, Firefox Premium will be priced at $ 5 / month, so we can think that in Spain and the European Community it will have a price of € 5 / month. What will we get with this price? In the beginning, surf the internet without having to see any advertisements. This will be achieved thanks to Mozilla's association with some of the world's most important publications, but not everything is as clear as the company of the famous fox browser would like.

Firefox Premium will cost $ 5 / month, but ...

The first question is: will it work on all web pages? The answer is surely no (although they promise yes). Although it is not the same service, Apple launched Apple News about 4 years ago and only very important North American publications were supported from the beginning. its expansion is slow and, 4 years later, it is not even available outside the North American territory.

What Mozilla plans to do is not bad: although they have not published any details, it is easy to think that there will be two versions of each website, one with advertising to enter for free and one totally ad-free for Firefox Premium users. The problem, as we have mentioned, is that it will take many years for this to become a reality, since it is assumed that they will have to negotiate in some way with even the smallest blogs on the entire internet; nobody would like to pay € 5 / month, enter a small blog and see their advertising there.

Mozilla ensures that advertising will disappear from all websites, be they blogs or services like Twitter or Reddit, something that is difficult for me to imagine right now, especially Twitter.

Audio versions of articles

Another advantage that Firefox Premium users will have is that there will be audio versions of articles, which will allow us to listen to them as if it were a short podcast. Of course, they either develop a realistic voice or what will be heard in this way will sound as if it were read to us by a robot.

On the other hand, we have already mentioned Twitter, Firefox Premium will include cloud sync so you know exactly where we have abandoned an item. For example, if this article were much longer, you could start it on your mobile, stop at the section that talks about the price, leave it, sit in front of the computer and continue reading right from that section. I have mentioned Twitter because this is not possible in the official app / website as it is in some third-party applications.

Available soon ... supposed

Firefox Premium and everything mentioned in this article should be available in the near future, but I have my doubts about it. It is not clear to me because, unlike other services launched by Mozilla or other companies, They have not given any approximate date of its launch. What appears when clicking on the label in which they invite us to subscribe to the service is a website that tells us that it is not yet available and offers us the possibility of doing a survey (shortcut: here). In the survey they ask us if we are interested, what is the level of our interest or when we would subscribe.

Whether you're interested or not, it doesn't hurt to fill out the survey launched by Mozilla. Even taking into account that it is in English, it will not take more than 1 minute and Mozilla will know what we think of these functions to launch them as they have been announced today or think of something better to get our attention. My question is one and more direct: will you pay for Firefox Premium?

The problem is not going to be that, the problem is that there are already sites that their pages do not look good because of the publicity they are carrying, so how can we guarantee to see a site and that it works well?
