Galpon Minino a distribution for old equipment made in Spain

Today I wanted to take advantage of this space to tell you about a Gnu / Linux distribution that, although it is not developed on Ubuntu, does have the same philosophy as Lubuntu y Xubuntu, that is, to be a distribution for computers with few resources. I am referring to Pussycat or rather Pussycat barn.

Pussycat shed It is based on the project Mini shed y the Minino project from a user of Guadalinex. This is how these projects converged creating a distribution for obsolete equipment that spoke Galician, Spanish and Catalan. Its bases are currently on Debian with a desktop Lxde modified.

Characteristics of Galpon Minino

The minimum requirements of this distribution to walk with the desktop are:

  • 500 MHz processor.
  • 128 mb of Ram.
  • 2,5 Gb of HDD.

If you want to use in addition to the desktop, to browse the web, it is recommended to have double the above specs.

The result is not a decent distribution, but the following. A distribution for obsolete equipment that few web development teams have managed to make, being one of the best distributions for old equipment, far above Lubuntu and Xubuntu in terms of performance and features.

Pussycat shed It is one of the most important projects in our country that is gradually expanding. Currently we can find Pussycat shed in computers in Galician and Andalusian institutions thanks to the project of the University of Granada that is enabling computers with this distribution. In addition, a distribution is being developed for normal equipment but for a child user, ChopOS and it is also being modified Raspbian to be able to have a version of Pussycat barn on Raspberry Pi.

Personally, I have had the pleasure of being able to install and use this distribution and not only its current version but the previous versions. It is simply incredible, not only for its performance but for the way it approaches the desktop, the translations and the support they provide. It seems that walk-around projects work much better than those that cost a lot of money, do not do you believe? And if you doubt my words, go to their website and try it, you don't need an old computer, since it has a live disco to prove it. What are you waiting for? And by the way tell us your experience.
