Frameworks 5.65 comes with 170 changes to continue improving the KDE experience

Framework 5.65

For most users of KDE software, the most important thing is Plasma, its graphical environment. But KDE also develops other things, such as its applications (KDE Applications) or more than 70 libraries that make everything work as it should. Those libraries received a new version this afternoon with the launch of KDE Framework 5.65. This new installment arrives just one day after the launch of a Qt 5.14 whose most outstanding novelty is a new independent graphical API.

KDE Frameworks 5.65 has arrived just over a month after v5.64, and has done so to introduce a total of 170 changes. The full list of news is available at this link, but many of them are for fixing bugs and making everything related to the KDE software, including the applications and its Plasma graphical environment, work as well as possible. Here's a list of some of the new features they mentioned in their KDE news articles.

Interesting news in Frameworks 5.65

  • Fixed keyboard navigation in open / save dialogs so using the return key to enter a folder when the file viewer is in focus no longer unexpectedly saves the file there.
  • When we drag a URL from a web browser to Dolphin or to the desktop, the resulting icon now has the correct icon.
  • Tab views in QML-based user interfaces now match frame background color when using many non-default color schemes.
  • Fixed margins in a variety of standalone wizard and dialog windows.
  • The properties dialog now shows a button that will take us to the goal of a symlink.
  • The reliability of searching for Internet source icons in Kirigami-based applications has been improved, which should improve stability across the board in Discover as it makes heavy use of this functionality.
  • The “Red” place in Dolphin now shows its real name in the Information Panel.
  • Fixed a common crash in System Preferences that could be triggered by visiting the same category twice.
  • Disk images that have been mounted and unmounted now disappear from the Device Notifier applet as expected.
  • File deletion is now multithreaded, so for example deleting a large file no longer freezes Dolphin.
  • Color picker icons now use eyedropper-style familiar images.
  • There are new icons for Search and the Baloo file indexer.
  • Spectacle now offers OBS Studio as another option for screen recording.

Soon in Discover + Backports PPA

When KDE releases a new version of Plasma, it may appear in Discover the same day or shortly thereafter. Things already change with the KDE Applications, which usually wait for at least one maintenance version (a month) and with the libraries of which we have a new version for a few hours. Frameworks 5.65 coming to Discover in the next few daysIt is not known when, as long as we have the KDE Backports repository added. Other options that will allow us to enjoy before this novelty is using operating systems that use special repositories, such as KDE neon.
