Glimpse 0.2.0 is further unchecked from GIMP to look more like Photoshop

Glimpse 0.2.0

It's been a long time since developers unhappy with the most famous free image editing application by its name launched the first stable version of your proposal. The story is that GIMP is a bad word in some language or context, so they decided to launch an alternative with a new name and a new direction. That course has been further defined with the launch of Glimpse 0.2.0.

The truth is that Glimpse 0.2.0 has been available for just a week, but it came with important news. As usual, although it should not be in a fork of a software like GIMP, some of the novelties of this release have been destined for Windows, but the most striking is that they have built-in certain PhotoGIMP settings. For those who do not know it, it is a GIMP mod that copies the aesthetics and order of Photoshop in GIMP, in this case Glimpse, which includes keyboard shortcuts.

Glimpse 0.2.0: the name change is joined by the makeover

Among other new features, Glimpse 0.2.0 also introduces these changes:

  • Updated base to GIMP 2.10.18 (latest version of GIMP is 2.10.20).
  • Add support for 64bits in Windows.
  • The installer for Windows has been rewritten and now offers the option to install the software in a custom location.
  • Python 2 has been removed entirely as it has been discontinued.
  • The app icon has been outlined slightly.
  • The packages BABL 0.1.78, GEGL 0.4.22 and MyPaint 1.3.1 and LibMyPaint 1.5.1 are used as external dependencies.

Users interested in installing Glimpse 0.2.0 can do so in different ways. At the moment, the Snap version, not to change, has not yet been updated, but the Flatpak version can be installed by clicking on this link (or with the command flatpak install flathub org.glimpse_editor.glimpse) if our distribution has the support activated. It is also available in the default repositories of many Linux distributions, but v0.2.0 is not guaranteed to have arrived yet.
