GNOME 3.32 will look better thanks to Fractional Scaling

Image is important. Or it is if we want to have it all. When I tried Linux for the first time, 13 years ago, it was difficult for me to get to the Ubuntu UI, which we remember that at that time it had the interface like the current Ubuntu MATE. But hey, Linux users have always given preference to reliability and performance. That does not mean that the Linux community has shelved the image and Ubuntu 18.10 or 19.04 with the new song that Yaru prepares they are a good example of it. What's more, GNOME 3.22 will soon look even better, at least on external screens.

But make no mistake that we are not talking about changes to the icons or the theme. We are talking about Fractional Scaling. So They have published on Treviño's blog and they tell us about a scaling that will allow windows to be scaled in fractional values such as 3/2 or 2 / 1.3333 to make them look better on HiDPI / 4K displays. This fractional has been in development for several years and was initially prepared for implementation in GNOME Shell and Mutter.

GNOME 3.32 is expected next week

As you may have observed in the screenshot above, the X11 apps are not yet scaled with quality because it is not possible for all of them (as in xterm). We need to work towards a solution that covers legacy applications that support scaling and at the same time those that don't want to be scaled at all (games!)

GNOME 3.32 will be available next week, although it is still can be delayed to the beginning of April. As always in these cases, it is impossible to know if it will be available for the Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo launch, but considering that a beta will be launched a month before, it seems unlikely that it will be. It is more logical to think that it will arrive weeks later with a software update.

Keep in mind that, when the time comes, the function will be disabled by default because it is in the experimental phase, so it will have to be activated manually until everything works perfectly. In any case, we are glad that they are launching this novelty. And you?
