Cartridges already support RetroArch games. New this week in GNOME

This week in GNOME

The week that has gone from August 11 to August 18 in the universe GNOME has brought an interesting novelty for gamers: Cartridges, or just Cartridges in Spanish, now supports RetroArch games. The downside is that, without being a big gamer and preferring to use EmulationStation DE, one doesn't know how to make this particular thing work, so we'll leave the novelty there without going much further. One server does promise that if he finds out how to get RetroArch games to appear on Cartridges he will write an article.

Among the rest of the novelties I would highlight that Deikhan is becoming a regular in the articles of news of the week in GNOME. The new media player continues to improve by adding new features and fixing problems that have been found in recent days. What you have below is the list of news that have arrived in the last seven days.

This week in GNOME

  • macOS CI has been re-enabled for GLib. Related information.
  • File Shredder 2.0.0 has now reached its stable version by removing the preferences dialog and with custom code that has been included directly in the source.
  • Cartridges now supports RetroArch, and has added the option to automatically clean up uninstalled games on import and the ability to undo an import. If I have time I'll investigate how to get RetroArch titles to appear and post it.
  • Turtle 0.4 has already been released. It is a tool to manage Git repositories from within Nautilus by providing banners and context menus. For more complex operations it provides specific dialogs, such as those to commit, synchronize, log, settings, etc. Since this version, almost all git operations can be done with Turtle.

  • Gradience 0.8.0-beta1 is now available on Flathub Beta. To find out something about their news, it is worth reading articles such as those of This search.
  • GDM Settings v3.3 has now arrived to fix two bugs, namely that changing the background color didn't work in GNOME 44 and that the background image was broken on wide or dual monitor setups in GNOME 44 as well.
  • Fractal 5.beta2 is the second beta since it was rewritten to take advantage of GTK4 and the Matrix Rust SDK. The most outstanding:
    • Ability to edit messages.
    • Logging in with home servers that don't support auto-discover.
    • A refactoring of the login flow should prevent hangs when going back at any step.
    • Sometimes two day separators would appear next to each other with no messages between them, this is now fixed.
    • Updated translations.

  • Denaro v2023.8.0 has arrived with:
    • Graphics have been added to the account view and to the exported PDF files.
    • Tags have been added that can be used with transactions for more accurate management and filtering.
    • Added the option to select the entire current month as a date range filter.
    • Added reminders for upcoming transactions.
    • Improved the transaction description suggestion algorithm with fuzzy search.
    • Fixed an issue where the help button in the import toast was not working.
    • Fixed an issue where Denaro would crash if an account had malformed metadata.
    • Fixed an issue where documents were not available when running Denaro via snap.
    • Updated translations.

Denaro v2023.8.0

  • Deikhan has received the following news, provided by what appears to be a bot from the same developer to share this type of information (TWIG-Bot):
    • Daikhan has received translation help and it has already been translated into Turkish thank you. Translations are done through Hosted Weblate.
    • Dropping multiple files into the player window now works as expected. Before, only the last file was played.
    • The application displays a dialog explaining the situation if the user tries to open an unsupported file type, for example a document or a supported file type (video or audio) with an unsupported codec.

And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
