GNOME welcomes Deikhan, a new player, among this week's news

Deikhan, a new player for GNOME

How much good has TWIG done to GNOME. Since the initiative began, many developers have jumped into the pool and decided to share their work with them, and now the desktop has many more applications that look good on it. Some of these applications become official, like Loupe, others become part of the circle and in a third level are those that the project mentions, but are considered third-party.

And this week have presented a new application to play videos "with style". I know that there are people who think that why make applications of a certain type if there are already others that do that and more, and I would answer them that precisely for that reason, for the "more." I myself have an app in Qt to play music. In fact I have 2, one simpler than the other, and I made them to practice and to have something simpler than VLC or Elisa and more attractive than cmus. It is one of the developments that has taken place in the week that went from July 28 to August 4, and the list is what you have below.

This week in GNOME

  • Many GNOME Shell search providers are reducing execution time and startup overhead.
  • Workbench has gained the ability to save and load projects to disk. In addition, they have made it easy to contribute to the library of demos and examples, see the contribution guide.
  • The rewrite of MibiMdEditor, a Markdown editor, has been completed and its first beta has been released. This editor works by adding scripts that will be called to generate the HTML code, so it can be used to write Markdown, BBcode and Asciidoc just by writing the script.
  • Evolution has received support for Autocrypt.
  • Tagger v2023.8.0 has arrived with this list of new features:
    • Added support for TrackTotal and BeatsPerMinute tag properties.
    • More sort options have been added.
    • Improved the advanced search algorithm, better supporting accented characters.
    • The apply now button will only be displayed when a file has unsaved changes.
    • Web services will now turn on and off depending on the system's Internet connection.
    • Empty Year, Track, and BPM fields will display an empty string instead of 0.
    • Fixed an issue where deleting a label would not delete all fields.
    • Fixed an issue where Tagger would not read individual album art from other programs.
    • Fixed an issue where documents were not available when running Tagger via snap.
    • Fixed an issue where Advanced Search could sometimes crash.
    • Fixed an issue where sending to AcoustID would hang.
    • Updated translations.

Tag v2023.8.0

  • Parabolic v2023.8.0 with this other list of new features:
    • Buttons have been added to select or deselect all items in a playlist.
    • Added a proxy setting in Preferences.
    • Parabolic will now check if there is an active network connection.
    • Fixed an issue where documents were not available when running Parabolic via snap.
    • Fixed an issue where history was not being saved correctly in json.
    • Updated translations.

Parabolic v2023.8.0

  • Daikhan is a new video and music player. There aren't many details, beyond a preview version on Flathub. Being at such an early stage, its developer warns that it may present problems, and right now it does not support hardware acceleration (header capture).
  • Cavalier v2023.8.0 has arrived with these new features:
    • Cavalier can now be controlled from the command line.
    • Run the application with the -help option to see the full list of available options.
    • The reverse mirror option is now available with the full mirror.
    • It is now possible to set the frames per second to 144 or another custom value.
    • Added anti-aliasing, so rounded elements now look less pixelated.
    • Added the ability to set a background image.
    • New drawing mode – Splitter.
    • Bar limit has been increased to 100.
    • Updated translations.

Cavalier v2023.8.0

  • There is a new extension available for GNOME called Solar, which allows Solaar to support features in Wayland that were previously unsupported.
