Today a week ago GNOME said goodbye to 2021 speaking of news such as Junction, the application to launch apps, among other things. Today seven days later posted the first article of 2022 on news in their circle and they have titled it as "The great 1.0". What are you talking about? The headline is striking, and the only thing we can know by reading it is that there is something important that has released its first major and stable version (both).
If you're thinking of a GNOME Shell app or something I'm sorry to disappoint you, but no. If what you have in mind is something more internal, yes: Libadwaita 1.0.0 is now available. That, coupled with the fact that many applications are also re-basing themselves on GTK4, will give GNOME a revamped design.
This week in GNOME
- Tracker, a tool for file system indexing, metadata storage and searches, now performs much better.
- The project's Clock application now uses libadwaita and GTK4, as well as being available in a dark version.
- Podcasts 0.5.1 has come to Flathub. Version 0.5 includes:
- A way to display the description of the episode.
- Episodes now resume at the point where they last stopped.
- Phones are now prevented from falling asleep during playback.
- Fixed a bug that could cause Phosh's lock screen to lag by several seconds.
- Lots of other small usability improvements and fixes for some broken downloads.
- Fragments (torrent client) can now configure custom ports, and can test whether a port has been successfully opened or forwarded.
- It does not have much to do with applications, but the TWIG website has been modernized and is now also available in a dark version.
And that's been it for this week at GNOME. Next Friday they will return with more news.
