IG: dm, a desktop client to send direct messages on Instagram

In the next article we are going to take a look at IG: dm. A few months ago we published an article on this blog, about a unofficial Instagram desktop app for Gnu / Linux named Frame. It still doesn't allow you to send private messages. At the moment we can only send direct messages with the Instagram application from our phones, but with the application that we are going to see today, this will already be solved.

IG: dm is a free and unofficial Instagram desktop client. With which anyone can send direct messages from Instagram. This application has been designed and developed with the aim of offering this function easily on the desktop of any user of this social network. IG: dm Desktop is a software that we can download from its official website for any of the previously named operating systems.

Run IG: dm v2.3.1

This Customer does not need installation. To be able to use it, we will only have to go to its website and download the file from it. AppImage. When we have it saved on our computer we will only have to give it permissions to then launch the client.

For give permissions to the file we just downloaded, we will only need to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write something like:

chmod a+x paquete.AppImage

./paquete.AppImage

How to use IG: dm

IG: dm offers a smooth user experience but as of this writing, has no customization features. Who really needs them? The usefulness of this application is only to send direct messages on the Instagram network.

When we launch the application, to start a new private chat with a user, we just have to find the user ID by typing @user_name to locate the recipient of our messages. Once we have found it, all you have to do is click on it and a new chat will open. From there, we will be able to send private text messages. IG: dm Desktop it also allows us to add emojis in our direct messages, to give them a little more color.

In our messages we can view multimedia elements posted by ourselves or other users in existing conversations. We just have to click on an image to display it in full screen. If someone has shared a post with us Through direct messages on Instagram we will be able to see it too. Yes indeed, No. it will open from the tool itself, but it will do so in our default browser.
