Kubuntu developers ask their users for help to test Plasma 5.8.8

A few days ago we received the new version of Kubuntu, but despite this, the developers of this official flavor continue to work on previous versions. Specifically, they are working on bringing Plasma 5.8.8 to the latest LTS version of Ubuntu, that is, Ubuntu 16.04.

Currently they have run into a big problem: They need testers to test the Plasma 5.8.8 packages and be able to bring the desktop to the LTS version of Kubuntu.

Software testing is one of the most important operations of a development, because if a good test is done, the development is not valid or it will give many problems. Currently Kubuntu has Plasma 5.8.7, an LTS version of the desktop but not the latest LTS version of Plasma.

In order to test the latest version of this desktop for Ubuntu 16.04 we just have to enable backports repositories and update them with the latest versions, then we have to add a testing repository that will install the latest version of Plasma.

Installing Plasma 5.8.8 on Kubuntu 16.04

We get this by opening a terminal and typing the following:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports -y
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

And then we add the testing repositories:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports-landing -y
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

And with this we will have the latest version of Plasma 5.8 LTS in our Kubuntu. We have to say that other packages and programs in development will also be added such as Krita 3.3.1, a development version of one of the alternatives to Photoshop most popular and famous in the world Gnu.

It is really necessary and important to test the software, as this saves us many bugs and problems. But I have to say that lately the Kubuntu Community has shrunk considerably, Not only is he having stumbles with his releases but KDE Neon is surpassing him in number of users and stability, something very significant Do not you think?
