Latest news on Ubuntu Cinnamon: we can already test your theme and soon the operating system

Ubuntu Cinnamon, so it will be

Last Thursday, Canonical released Eoan Ermine, the October 2019 version of its operating system and all its official flavors. In total, with Ubuntu, there are 8 flavors available which are the aforementioned Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Kylin. But in the medium-term future we will talk about nine, since there is already a project underway so that Ubuntu Cinnamon become official flavor.

In late September, the project leader currently known as Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix told us that he would release a trial version before Eoan Ermine was official. They did not arrive on time, but a few hours ago they told us that this version is almost ready and that we will be able to test it soon. On the other hand, what is already available are the packages kimmo-gtk-theme y kimmo-icon-theme that are part of the theme that Ubuntu Cinnamon uses right now.

Ubuntu Cinnamon theme can now be tested

Now you can test kimmo-gtk-theme and kimmo-icon-theme at home, installing it from our unstable PPA in https://launchpad.net/~ubuntucinnamonremix/+archive/ubuntu/unstable! If you want to be a geek, you can also get it on our github, which is always https://github.com/ubuntucinnamonremix. Make sure to do it at 19.10 Eoan!

In order to add the repository (unstable), we have to open a terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntucinnamonremix/unstable
sudo apt-get update

Later we can install the packages, one for the theme and one for the icons, with this other command:

sudo apt install kimmo-gtk-theme kimmo-icon-theme

We can select them using tools like GNOME Retouching.

Administrative message from @ItzSwirlz: We will release our first trial version soon, to get some attention (in a good way), as we need help from YOU to make sure our distribution and apps work and that you can give us photos and contribute to us. More information soon.

Por el momento exact release date unknown from the first trial version of Ubuntu Cinnamon (Remix), but it should arrive in the next few days. When the time comes, we must bear in mind that it will be a trial version designed so that we can have a first contact, but not to install it on production equipment. The best thing, as we do before trying other distributions, is that we install it in VirtualBox, start the image in GNOME Boxes or create an installation pendrive to run it in a Live Session. Do you feel like doing it now?
