Lubuntu 23.04 pushes up to LXQt 1.2 and Linux 6.2 in its April 2023 release

Lubuntu 23.04

When I began to write this note, the launch of Lubuntu 23.04 It wasn't official yet. Even though the ISO images are uploaded to the Ubuntu server, a release isn't 100% complete until the project behind it posts something on social media, their blog, or both, and that wasn't the time when I started with this article. But we already have a new version of Lubuntu, and we also know the most outstanding news, so we go there.

A flavor like this does not stand out for adding new arrivals showy. Their way of working and seeing things is different, and in mind they have to offer something that can be used without consuming many resources. In this way, with each new release they improve what already exists and keep up-to-date with new technologies, and that is something they have done in Lubuntu 23.04.

Highlights of Lubuntu 23.04

  • Supported for 9 months, until January 2024.
  • Linux 6.2.
  • LXQt 1.2. Without a doubt, this and the previous one are the novelties that stand out above the rest. This version improves the general desktop somewhat, but especially the applications.
  • Qt 5.15.8.
  • Libre Office 7.5.2.
  • VLC 3.0.18.
  • Featherpad 1.3.5.
  • Discover 5.27.
  • Squids 3.3. Lubuntu is involved in the team working to improve this installer. In the future they might change to the new Flutter-based installer, but that's a story we should cover another time.
  • Firefox as a snap, something that is not new, but they say that, despite the fact that there have been complaints from users, they have decided to keep things as they are, partly so as not to contradict Canonical. Explained this, they say that it improves a little more in each new version of the Mozilla browser.
  • Python 3.11.
  • GCC 13.
  • GlibC 2.37.
  • Ruby 3.1.
  • golang 1.2.
  • LLVM 16.

The new image can now be downloaded from the button that you will find below these lines. To update from the operating system, you can always try to follow our guide that explains how to do it from terminal, but it might be necessary to wait a few days until they activate these types of updates.
