The Gnome project, the project in charge of the Gnome desktop, continues to work on giving more functionality to your desktop. Thus, recently, Podcasts or Gnome Podcasts, an application to listen to podcasts from the desktop, has been presented.

The podcast phenomenon is being very popular in certain countries such as in the United States, the United Kingdom or Japan, which is causing exclusive applications to be created for this type of entertainment. Gnome Podcasts or Podcasts is an application that is synchronized with the feed of podcasts and presents them in the application to be able to listen to them from the desktop downloading the file to listen to it offline, without the need to fill our computer with unnecessary files. Podcasts has a simple but useful operation since connects to feeds from various podcast services such as Apple's iTunes to allow us to connect with a certain podcast without having to know it or have its website. In addition, we can configure it so that the podcast is deleted, in case of downloading it, once we have listened to the podcast.

The application connects with Gnome which makes we can run the application remotely or with desktop shortcuts, but unfortunately it is not in the Ubuntu repositories, so we have to install it from the flatpak format, the format with which Gnome works first and all its sub-projects. Thus, to install Podcasts we have to open a terminal and write the following:

flatpak install flathub org.gnome.Podcasts
flatpak run org.gnome.Podcasts

This will install and run the podcast application on our Ubuntu. If we don't like this app always we can choose some media players like Rhythmbox, Amarok or LPlayer. But we can also choose to be more minimalist and use podcast service web applications like Ivoox. In any case, it seems that with or without Podcasts, there is no reason not to be able to listen to podcasts on your computer. Do not you think?
