Soon we will be able to erase the telemetry data that Firefox collects about our use

Prevent Firefox from sending telemetry data to Mozilla

With every news we publish about Firefox It shows a bit more that Mozilla takes our privacy into account. Among its latest developments in this regard, the fox browser included an option that blocks trackers by default and crypto mining software, and the next version, which arrives in three days, will include another option, although from my point of view much less important because the information it will protect should only fall into the hands of the company itself.

The new option appears in Firefox 72, already available in the beta channel, but we will not see the warning exactly the same as the one in the header of this article if we do not use Firefox 73, currently the Nightly version. If we go to the Preferences / Privacy and Security section, or by entering in the URL bar about: preferences # privacy, we can see a section "Collection and use of Nightly data" that we can manage so as not to send the telemetry to Mozilla.

Firefox Nightly now allows us not to send telemetry data

If we want to stop sending this data, what we have to do is uncheck the "Allow Nightly to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla" box. As we have explained, it is said that the option is already available in the v72 of the browser, but the message as it should appear we will not see it if we are not using the v73 of the Nightly channel.

The telemetry data that collects the fox browser are explained in this Mozilla support website. In short, it collects technical data that the fox company uses to improve the performance and stability of the browser, but it also measures and supports marketing. Having explained this, each one has to think about whether to choose privacy or help the browser to be better, and precisely for this they have added the new option. Like most options that collect information to improve the software, it is activated by default.

Are you interested in deactivating the option and stop sharing your telemetry or will you leave it activated to help improve Firefox?

Not just any browser leaves open the possibility for the client to stop collecting data ... congratulations to Firefox. That is, if you want this to arrive in a more detailed menu in: Privacy & Security / Collection and use of Firefox data
