The system monitor is updated to GTK4, the most notable news this week in GNOME

GNOME System Monitor in GTK4

GTK4 and Qt6 have been available in the form of a stable version for some time, but different projects, such as GNOME and KDE, do not usually risk getting their fingers caught and give the libraries leeway before implementing it in their desktops and software. It is now, or for a few months now, that everyone (except GIMP...) is uploading the software to new versions, both main projects and third-party developers, and there are more and more applications that use GTK4.

This week, GNOME has uploaded its system monitor to use the fourth version of GTK (header capture). An important part of his effort was focused on not touching anything that worked, and making the design look as similar as possible to what we had been using until now. There are improvements that are visible, but everything will be familiar to us. This has arrived with enough time so that it can be tested and find possible bugs before releasing the stable version.

This week in GNOME

  • Webfont Kit Generator 1.1.0 has been released. It includes some improvements to its design and has been updated to use the GNOME 45 style. The application is in maintenance mode, but this version brings some small additions. Their Google Fonts importer now allows the use of CSS API v1 urls, which means that if you have an old url, you can import it without having to go back to Google Fonts. Base64 support has also been added, so you can now embed the fonts in the generated CSS file.
