This week, KDE has focused on fixing many bugs, the first changes will arrive in two days

KDE fixes many bugs

Maybe the next news that will reach the world KDE and that posted today Nate Graham may know by little. And that's for two reasons: first, they haven't released any new features, and second, the number of changes you've mentioned is less than in other weeks. Of course, he has promised that they are focusing on polishing the code and correcting bugs of all kinds, those that are seen and others that are less seen.

As on other occasions, this week they have published "news" that has been available for a few days, since Thursday to be more specific, coinciding with the launch of KDE Applications 19.12.3. The rest of the points mentioned will reach the KDE Applications 20.04.0, Frameworks 5.68 and the Plasma version that will be released in just over 48 hours in the future. Below you have the full list of changes that they mentioned this week.

Bug fixes and performance and interface improvements coming to KDE

  • When using the "Show Containing Folder" action present in many KDE applications, the item is now correctly highlighted if the containing folder was already visible in an existing Dolphin window (now available, Dolphin 19.12.3).
  • Fixed a visual bug in Okular's thumbnail rendering during scrolling (now available, Okular 19.12.3).
  • Okular now correctly renders rotated images in comic files (Okular 20.04.0).
  • Samba support for Dolphin now works with IPv6 addresses (Dolphin 20.04.0).
  • Fixed a common Plasma crash when adding or removing widgets (Plasma 5.18.3).
  • The System Preferences Audio page no longer has an unnecessary bottom scroll bar and now looks good when using a fractional scale factor (Plasma 5.18.3).
  • Changing the order of the title bar button now applies that change to running GTK3 applications immediately (Plasma 5.18.3).
  • In all KDE applications, text in the UI that is assumed to be bold now displays as bold as expected (Frameworks 5.68).
  • The "Run in terminal" option now works when using Wayland and Konsole is the default terminal emulator (Frameworks 5.58).
  • Various icons in Plasma now better respect and reflect their color scheme (Frameworks 5.68).
  • The Baloo file indexer now notes and re-indexes files that have been changed during the initial indexing process (Frameworks 5.68).
  • The new "Get New [Thing]" window thumbnail view now works (Frameworks 5.68).
  • Elisa's shuffle mode now visually reorders songs in the playlist so we can see the new order (Elisa 20.04.0).
  • For the Telegram app, a monochrome icon has been added to the system tray and the icon has been refined to look more like the original (Frameworks 5.68).

When will everything mentioned in the list above arrive

As we mentioned, Graham occasionally publishes changes that are already available days late. Those of the KDE Applications 19.12.3 are available since last Thursday, from Friday on Discover. On the other hand, KDE Applications 20.04.0 It will be the next major release that will include feature highlights and will be officially released on April 23. The downside is two things: first, they will not be included in Kubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa and, second, they will not reach Discover until they release at least one maintenance update, which will coincide with the release of v20.04.1 of the applications of KDE coming May 14.

The first changes that we will see of those mentioned in this list will be those of plasma 5.18.3, the next version of the KDE graphical environment that will be released on March 10th. Frameworks 5.68 will be officially released on March 14, but we will have to wait a few days for it to appear on Discover. We remember that in order to enjoy all these changes as soon as possible we have to add the KDE Backports repository or use an operating system with special repositories like KDE neon.
