Ubuntu 20.04.3 now available with Linux 5.11 and updated packages

Ubuntu 20.04.3

Canonical released today Ubuntu 20.04.3, which coincides with Focal Fossa's third point update, the latest LTS version. This launch has occurred six months after 20.04.2, which in turn was released six months after 20.04.1. Released in April 20.04, the Focal Pit will continue to be supported until 2025, but the graphical environment (Shell) will remain in GNOME 3.36 and applications will also not receive new features. So are the LTS versions, which on the other hand allows them to be more stable.

What is renewed in these releases is the kernel, and Ubuntu 20.04.3 has switched to using the Linux 5.11 which also uses Ubuntu 21.04. This is by default, so those who prefer to stay on the LTS kernel have to make the necessary changes on their own.

Ubuntu 20.04.3 and all its official flavors will use Linux 5.11

Among the new features that are included, Ubuntu 20.04.3 has received all the security updates that they have been releasing in the last six months. As for the main edition, GNOME 3.36 is now at the eighth point update (3.36.8). As for the rest, the official flavors, which we remember are Ubuntu Bugie, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu MATE, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Kylin, have also released a new ISO.

Ubuntu 20.04 was released in April 2020, and it came with Linux 5.4 and ZFS enhancements in all editions. As in every release, most of the changes were related to the different desktops, with GNOME 3.36, Plasma 5.18, LXQt 0.14.1, Xfce 4.14 or many multimedia applications updated in Ubuntu Studio. For users of this edition, we have to remember that you have abandoned Xfce to use Plasma, so Ubuntu Studio 20.04 will not be able to upgrade to Ubuntu Studio 22.04 next April.

Users interested in installing the new ISOs are available at this y this other link.

The first thing I did was install linux-generic and uninstall everything related to hwe. So with the 5.4 Lts kernel everything is perfect and stable as a rock.
