Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla launches its first beta, final version in three weeks

Ubuntu 20.10 beta 1

Although a version of Ubuntu has been in development for more than 5 months, the important steps do not begin to take until the last weeks. Among them we have, for example, the when the kernel is updated to which the final version will use. Another important moment is when the versions of the graphical environments or their themes are updated, in this case Yaru's, but there were still two to be found. Ubuntu 20.10, and I mention it in the past tense because one of the most important is already happening.

Actually, I would say that it is the most important, but the one that attracts the most attention is usually another, more specifically when they reveal the wallpaper. The step they just took is that we can now download the first beta of Ubuntu 20.10, which will coexist with the Daily Builds, but which has already reached a point of maturity good enough for Canonical to offer it so that anyone interested can try it. This beta already includes practically everything that the final version will include, although the bugs that the community will find will still be polished.

Ubuntu 20.10 will arrive on October 22

Along with the first beta of Ubuntu 20.10, those of the rest of the components will also arrive soon of the Groovy Gorilla family, which we remember that at the moment are Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Kylin and Ubuntu Budgie. So will sooner or later those of the other flavors that pretend to be official in the short term, such as Ubuntu Cinnamon, Ubuntu DDE or Ubuntu Unity.

Betas can be downloaded from the page iso.qa.ubuntu.com, but at the time of writing, the only ones available are Ubuntu Server (20201001); the rest will rise in the next few hours. As for the stable version, its landing will take place in just three weeks, the next Thursday October 22. On the same day we will be able to update from the same operating system, although in some flavors we will have to install tools to be able to launch the updater.

UPDATED: Now also available in cdimage.ubuntu.com
