Ubuntu Cinnamon, future official flavor, the best competition for Linux Mint

Ubuntu Cinnamon

In recent years, the Canonical family has changed a lot. Without looking too far back in time, in 2015 came what was my favorite flavor for a long time, Ubuntu MATE that recovered the classic graphical environment after the move to Unity. More recently, as much as last year, the major version reverted to GNOME, so Ubuntu GNOME is gone, and Ubuntu Studio is on the line. At the other extreme is Ubuntu Cinnamon, a flavor that is following the steps that Ubuntu Budgie gave at the end of 2016.

What Ubuntu Budgie did, something different than Ubuntu MATE did, was run as a candidate to be the official Ubuntu flavor and Canonical noticed them, but they didn't use their final name until they officially became part of the family. Initially, they were called Budgie Remix, just as the "Cinnamon" version is now called Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix. With the name dictated by the Canonical rules already set, the next step is to show them that they can create Ubuntu packages properly.

Ubuntu Cinnamon could be Ubuntu's 9 flavor

An interesting fact, which is usually commented, for example, in sports news, is that the official Ubuntu account on Twitter he started to follow to Ubuntu Cinnamon last August. These companies do not stitch without thread and this is a sign that can be taken as a welcome to the family.

But they are still taking the first steps. Right now, the website is under development (ubuntucinnamon.org) and can only be accessed with a code. They are at such an early stage that, while it is true that there is a test version already prepared, they say that they will release Ubuntu Cinnamon 19.10 as early as 2020, which means that there will be no version on the day of Eoan Ermine's release which will be on October 17.

And what will Ubuntu Cinnamon be? Simply one more flavor. Like all the others, it will be an Ubuntu-based distribution supported by Canonical, although it will be maintained by its developers. As an official flavor, its heart will be Ubuntu, but it will use the Cinnamon graphical environment, with its applications, applets and others that will offer a user experience different from the rest of its brothers. It should be similar to using Linux Mint, who made the Cinnamon graphical environment famous. Also, that a version as important as the one that Ubuntu Cinnamon will use it will make the desktop «Cinnamon» improve more quickly.

What difference would there be between Ubuntu Cinnamon and installing said desktop on Ubuntu? For example, I installed the Xfce desktop in Ubuntu 20, and I would like to know what difference it would make if I had installed Xubuntu 20.
